CFR 1010.178 governs the operation of many different
types of powered industrial trucks, including those powered
by electricity, gasoline, and compressed gas. A common
type of powered industrial truck is known as a forklift or lift truck.

CFR 1910.178(l) states training must be completed
before an operator is assigned to operate a forklift.
The employer must make sure that each forklift operator
is competent to operate a forklift safely, as demonstrated
by the successful completion of a training and evaluation
program.
